You guys can try using this theme. It can be set per-user. Go to Profile -> Forum Profile -> Modify Profile -> Look and Layout -> Current Theme -> (change) -> Find the "Black Box 2.0" theme -> click on "Use this theme". You can also preview it.
You can also choose from any of the themes listed on this page (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?action=search;version%5B%5D=73)

Here's an idea i just thought... if we can decide on a default theme (votes?) then use parts of the css style to spice up the homepage (http://mappinghell.net)?

People can choose the theme they want for their computer only.
People show up, see a 'Change Theme' link, blahblah, and then they're happy.

I forgot to mention - avoid poor taste themes. Jeez dude.
As you may have noticed, all themes have a logo. We should have a MH logo. We had one, made by Windecker, but I lost it at some point, so we need to either get that one back, or make a new one. It should say Mapping Hell in text, but with a fancy hell font.
Also, we'll need to add some lava and maybe some demons to the Black Box theme if that will be the final default.
As for the homepage, we'll do that after we finish with the forum theme.
Can you have a different icon for each sub-forum?
Could use the game logos (Sauer, RE, Tesseract, etc) instead of these: (http://mappinghell.net/forum/Themes/BlackBox_2_0/images/on2.png)

Generally, modifications should be applied after the theme is chosen, because the theme code itself needs to be modified.
