Hey guys, this is unixfreak's application board.
I managed to sign up just now. ;D
Thank you, now this is for your maps, and all your application stuff. Now, I would like to work with you on (our) application map.
Sure, which server?
Give me 15minutes and i'll be there shortly
{Home-Serv Delux 1}
GoodOldJacob's server.
Ok, well i'm not sure what that was about.
Anyway, here is some stuff i have made in the past (mostly unfinished maps).
This map is called "protonic", its set in a futuristic power plant of some kind (nuclear reactor). The map is fairly small but has a nice layout for small ffa matches (2v2 for example). This is probably my most complete map so far, it has waypoints for the bots, and also regen capture bases. This map is not finished though, it lacks some details in obvious places. The general layout is also symmetrical which was quite a task to get right at the start. Ignore some of the lighting problems, it will be fixed once the map is finished.

Here is a preview of another map of mine (just started this week) called scorch. Its set on a world where the star is dying and the planet has become scorched. Generally it will have a very burnt/hot feel to it. Certain parts of it also look like a gigantic monster is on the lose, through gigantic claw marks in the floors, and roofs being torn open by "something". This is far from finished, and only has 4 sections (rooms) for now.

This is from a map called sectorone, although far from finished. I'm hoping to create some kind of underground base with this general theme:

Few screenies of maps immitating other games
Nibelheim (a town in final fantasy 7), angled geometry got really awkward and took a rather long time to make what is in the picture:

A silly race-style map with loop the loops, springpads and obstacles, based on sonic the hedgehog.

Soooo, that's what i have for now (at least, anything that is worth showing). Previously i had created several maps which were lost to a hard-drive nuke, one was based on the 'stargate command center' from tv show called stargate-sg1 (i would love to been able to share that, it was pretty much finished). Maybe i will try making it again sometime.
I've attached the map 'protonic' as it is really the only completed (sort of) map i have. You should be able to extract it with WinRAR, sorry about the format, i don't have zip or rar on this computer.
Tell me what you think of the screenshots, i would love to have feedback. Thanks!
Garm, Unix is fully capable of making his own application.
Second: I will review the maps that I haven't seen with the next few days. (I've seen the Sonic one)
I know Unix as a good mapper with good coding skills (He made a universal Image>Cube art converter so Somedude didn't have to.)
As a first impression, based both on the screenshots and on my knowledge of him personally, he is definitely leaning towards a yes vote.
I've reviewed your maps.
Protonic: High playable layout, although the jumppads need easier access. Skylight was a bad choice for the map, considering the environment. The textures are nice, and I see some nice details. Overall, a playable map that I like.
Sonicbraten: You haven't uploaded it, but I have it for some reason. I see nice geometry in that map. Shows lo's of promise.
Overall, I would say that you are a developing mapper, but you definitely have a lot of the skills that we like to see. My vote is yes.
Like, wow, cool visuals, bro.
But will it blend?
(vote is yes)
Sorry, I'll have to re-issue my vote.
Unix, you made Vampi a very happy frog.

The teleports were put in a way so you would need to weapon jump (make it harder to get the quad) but yeh i agree with you.

;D
Thanks!

My vote is in your hands.
Hey Unix,
Being a new member to Mapping Hell my judgement isn't as well tuned :P but I had a look at Protonic and I really like how the theme is consistent. The skylight doesn't really work for that map like sweet said. I've 'cubed' with you before and your a nice guy.
Being a creator of Race/Slide maps my self, from the screen shots, I see that you know how to texture and once again create a nice theme to a project. Can you post the Race map?
I've already seen Nibelheim and I respect the fact that you made angled houses.
I will vote once you tell me whether or not you can post the race map.
;D
Thanks. I will clean up the sonic map for the next hour or so to try and reduce its size (about 2.5mb lol)... parts of it are rushed and don't look right as it is. ::)

why don't you just use a checkerboard texture instead of many cubes?

Meh i didn't think of that when i started it, i never thought it would turn out to be a whole map. It has too many problems to be worth fixing anyway,
- flashing skybox/geometry craziness
- high cube count
- horrible lighting
- don't even ask about the clipping
- crammed into the default map size (/newmap 10)

I've attached it below, just spent 30minutes cutting the filezise down to 1mb:
I've also attached the map called "scorch", i have been working on lately. This morning i added some small details and an extra room with a staircase, isn't playable yet though.
Holy crap. YES YES YES YES YES YESYES YES YES YES YE SYE STEHAGHDSAYSGGAERHAGGRH
Vote = Yes
Wait, so if Jake's vote is in Unixfreak's hands... Wait
Is he in? Or something?
My vote in his hands = he is holding my vote = he has it.
Is that it?? xD
Well then, welcome to the cla- FUUUUUUUUUUU SPARKY.
