Hey guys. I've just upgraded the server again last night.

It's almost a full overhaul, the only thing that was kept were the hard drives, and the data (including OS):

Old machine: evo
New machine: evo reloaded
More pics soon!

The transition was smooth, it booted up without a problem (thanks Debian!)

Running Debian 7.0 Wheezy

It is a silent machine, and the noise is made by the hard disks spinning. I'd like to place them in such a manner that they don't touch the metal part of the case (they can be suspended with rubber or strings) at some point, but the case is kind of small for that.

Hi guys. Previously I've been known to change clan rules myself, by abusing my administrative rights. I apologize for that.

Now I have a couple of ideas for changing the rules, and I call everyone to vote for them to make it into the rules. In fact, if you have more rule change ideas, feel free to post them and make a vote for them.

The following ideas come from the basic idea of voting, and especially the relevance of a vote and making a member's vote more precious.

Up until now we've had unanimity with member acceptance, but now there is a disputed member (PainFactory) and he's not getting clear votes. This is something to be discussed elsewhere but i thought i'd put the question in writing - what happens when a member does not get all positive votes?

So enough of that, here are the rule changes i propose (vote separately for each):

1. Candidates have to convince each active clan member for their vote. Each member that is thusly examining the candidate will decide on his/her own and in his own way if the candidate gets his/her vote.

2. There's no way you can stop someone from leaving the clan (or perhaps we can discuss this). However, if they want to rejoin, I propose a re-joining vote from active members.

3. Non unanimous votes should be discussed/worked on by the applicant until all members vote yes.

(I have to go quick - please vote - we can split this up into three threads with a vote system if you guys want)

Hey guys. Feel free to join in on this with data/research. I'm basically trying to gather as much info on the music on the Genesis games Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.

This includes: Musician listings, biographies, track listings, music transcriptions, covers, vgm downloads etc.

I'm limiting the scope to these four Genesis/Mega Drive games, cause something tells me a whole lot of information can be extracted.

Runs 24/7, in my room. It's pretty silent too.

Hi guys! I'm going to try to create a procedure for inviting new members into the clan. Feel free to suggest any improvements.

I think the simplest way is to post the person's work, or links to his/her work in the joining section, and a general description for them, so all MH members can agree to inviting him/her, and after everyone agrees, we just ask the person if they want to be in, and if they say yes, they are in, because everyone already agreed and assessed his/her skills and attitude.

Hi guys!

I've now changed the registration page CAPTCHA system with KeyCAPTCHA, which is a graphical puzzle sort of thing. To see it, try logging out and then going to the registration page. It's actually a fun toy )

I've also banned all the users that signed up in the recent period (164 sign-ups with some duplicate IPs), by using iptables. There are currently 131 such IPs banned on the mappinghell server.

Hopefully this should get rid of a lot of spammer bots.

We've also changed the registration method, new members have to be approved by an admin.

Hi guys. As you may have noticed, the server has been down for a few days. There was a problem with mysql after upgrading from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze (Squeeze is now stable). That got fixed, and in the meanwhile, I also proceeded to setup software RAID1 partitions on the two 1TB hard disks. So now our uploaded files (the maps we upload on this forum, for example) are safe. The partition scheme is like this: there are two 500GB partitions, one is root, the other is data, and GRUB is set up to boot from RAID.
