According to the current member's list we're almost 30 strong, yet how many of those people are actually here? Some people come on the forums to "check for streams of activity" every now and then, but we never see them on the servers let alone in IRC. You guys have to make it happen.

I've checked the mappinghell sauerbraten server a few times in the last times and it was empty every single time (but maybe I didn't check often enough).

And the problem about IRC is that I don't really feel like connecting to an irc server just for one channel... I'm a fan of small irc networks myself, but one channel?

Perhaps you were checking at the wrong times because we've been pretty active lately, everytime we have an editing session we can get 8-10 people easily. Jim Dandy is not the only MH server for we also have Sheeptopia and Athbazcar.

First off I just want to bring up the fact that if you've been keeping up with the Sauer SVN, eihrul is looking to release a stable version sometime around the end of the year. One of the biggest changes is compatibility: If your computer is not powerful enough to display shaders, then you will not be able to run the game in 2016. Simple as that, shaders are now required to play so this pretty much forces everyone to upgrade. It's almost 2016, there shouldn't be anyone with that old of a graphics card. Now in my case my POS 2013 Dell Inspiron has integrated graphics and a weak processor to begin with, plus being an engineer major I'm going to need a more powerful rig to run AutoCAD and Inventor anyways...

Are you sure we have enough activity to fiol upa an empty forum? I really am not sure if this is a good move :S

It's not that we dont have enough forum activity, the current forum has a TON of inactive/false profiles and junk topics and we simply want to do some housekeeping to keep things neat. According to the current member's list we're almost 30 strong, yet how many of those people are actually here? Some people come on the forums to "check for streams of activity" every now and then, but we never see them on the servers let alone in IRC. You guys have to make it happen.

why is a forum move "desperately" needed?

I say "desperate" not in the sense that this is an urgent matter, but because the clan is about to enter into a new time in its history and I believe that calls for some changes. As far as the FORUMS themselves goes, how you navigate around and operate them is not going to change. We're pretty much going to re-theme and optimize them.

Honestly my reasoning in do so is mainly cosmetics; the current forums doesn't have a "hellish" theme and our website at mappinghell.net is non-existent... its just a splash screen. We simply grew tired of looking at the default SMF theme and an empty homepage, but dont worry - we are considering the option to let the user pick whichever theme he/she chooses! Don't you guys want a nice looking website to display our skills and show everyone what MappingHell is all about?

News / Desperately Needed Forum and Site Overhaul
October 03, 2015, 05:33:15 AM
Evening mates!

Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be undergoing some major site and forum upgrades here @ mappinghell.net You shouldn't experience any delays or interruptions on the current site while we perform first behind the scenes such as database optimization and backups. Vampi and I will be leading this operation; we have already been beta testing a new WordPress powered site on a sub-domain of MH's for the past month. We've made great progress since beginning this project and I believe that we can confidently say that you can expect the new site to be completed and ready to transfer to mappinghell.net in the next 2-3 weeks, end of October at the latest.

Now, the address of the site obviously isn't changing. We're trying to complete this upgrade with as little "foundational changes" as possible. However, as part of our clean up efforts, we will be doing a complete refresh of the MH forums. What this means is that everything from the conception of the current forums up until right before we launch the new site will be archived and cut off from the main navigation; nevertheless, you will still be able to access everything from the old forums.

Currently we are experimenting with various forum plugins designed for WP; we are looking for one that is as close as possible in functionality and design to what we are currently using because we are attempting to integrate the forums with the site so that way the sets of profiles between the two are linked. This allows for greater functionality, new features, and a richer site/forum experience for the end user. However, if for whatever reason we cant get the plugins to work properly or we cant find one that's just right for our needs, we will be sticking with Simple Machine Forums for they have one of the most robust and flexible forum systems out there.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please dont hesitate to ask Vampi or myself either on the forums, IRC, or in game. It's been fun working on this project and I eagerly look forward to being a part of this new chapter in MappingHell's history with you and this new website!

Regards, MasterTechCC - MappingHell Admin

Sorry to see you go. I'm not going to ask you to stay, because you're right about the inactivity, and I respect your decision. However, you're welcome back if you decide to come back, when the clan has become active again.

I'm figuring out right now what I can do to help the activity back up.

Good luck with your clan! Note that it will remain marked as a friend clan.

I appreciate it Vampi, when things get better I will consider your offer. I wish you the best of luck getting this clan afloat again

Suicizer has my support, as well as MasterTechCC's support, for becoming the new leader.

Whatever it takes to get this clan back on its feet. I believe Suicizer has what it takes and will do a great job of reviving this clan

Goodbye MH,

Well, I don't know how to say this but I think its time for me to leave too. This clan has gotten really inactive since I joined and It's just no fun online anymore since we're not all together. Seriously when was the last time we ever saw half the clan list online.... let alone a quarter? I've thrown a lot of ideas out there and no one is taking the initiative. We don't even have a clan/stuffs map where we can show off our shit to other people; show em how great we really are. Wheres the leadership? Who exactly is running the clan? Without that motivation or figurehead people are going to start losing interest; I know what its like because I've been there before, and believe me, its not easy. Now dont get me wrong, this is a great clan with a good group of skilled people, but now I honestly feel as if this just isn't worth staying apart of anymore.

Not only that but the lack of respect between members isn't helping it either

Before any of you start raising questions I can tell you right now that this has nothing to do with Ardelico. The thought about leaving has been on my mind for some time now. I was never apart of that mess and I dont plan on getting involved. I am leaving simply because I want to focus on starting up my old clan again. From 2008-11 Tech Republic was one of the biggest and greatest clans that the sauer community has ever seen, and I want to relive those memories again. I miss the goofing off in meetings, the endless hide and seek matches on the clan base, and just having fun editing and hanging out with friends. I know what it takes to run a clan, what it means to be a leader and I'm just not seeing that here anymore. Unless someone steps up to the plate to get things going again, this clan is going nowhere... You can count on that.

Anyways, It was fun while it lasted, but now I feel that it's time to move on. I thought about the matter one last time overnight and have made my decision. I am now formally resigning from Mapping Hell. Best of luck to keeping this clan afloat, there's something different here that other clans just dont have...

- Kind Regards, MasterTechCC :kirby:

Seriously, does anyone legitimately map (more than or equal to 4 hours a week) anymore?

YOU HAVE 2 VOTES FOR THE POLL.

Yeah, believe it or not I'm one of those guys. I haven't played much this month though due to finals, but I'm editing every other day + Why isn't there an option for "I'm on GTA more than I am Sauerbraten"? lol I've been playing GTA instead of studying every night now :P

November 28, 2013, 07:43:56 PM
For those of you that use the mobile forum app Tapatalk (which is only like 3 of us at this point), I updated the package to RC5 v3.9.1. Also our forum was really lacking a logo in the app so I took the initiative and made a simple one myself. I might fix it up a little bit but this is basically it, for anyone that cares:

October 25, 2013, 12:52:54 AM
So, yeah I'm making a comeback. As you know my old clan Tech Republic has been around since 2008, then we disbanded about two years ago. Well I just wanted to say that I've gotten a lot of work done on our new website, our forums are almost ready to go, I have several past members looking to rejoin, and we are now recruiting :D I know that to some of you this game may not seem like much to make a lot of news of anymore, but for me, I put too much time and effort into putting this thing together to stop now. After months and years (lol) of preparation I'm finally ready to move forward. See for yourself - http://techrepublic.webs.com/

Our IRC channels are @4ch.mooo.com  #yotsubanome and #techrepublic

Before the Akimbo Mods site was shut down I had already downloaded a crapton of AC gfx mods, including an HD player skin set. It looks very clean, and gives the game an overall better appearance. I can upload the package if you'd like along with any other mods for AC/Sauer you might want
#24
LOL I highly doubt that anyone even cares anymore but just so you know after nearly 3 years since the latest version came out in 2010, version 1.2 was finally released yesterday night. The update includes many changes to weapon damage, recoil and overall balancing, 2 new gamemodes, 10 new maps with more textures and mapmodels, HUD/GUI improvemnts, bug fixes and lots of behind-the-scene cubescript improvements.

I was able to compile and test out Tesseract on windows the other day and It looks great! For some reason I cant get it to run complex above 75+ fps... maxfps = 1000, and I put it on the lowest graphics settings. I'm going to try a clean build this weekend. Also is the player model taller by 150%? I noticed it in one of the offices where 2.5 blocks @ grid power 3 (or 4?) = player's height.  :-/

I wish I could help with the gui because I had some ideas Raz could use but I'm just so busy....

The forum is dead because we are still mostly talking about sauer which is dead. Maybe if we focused more on Tesseract and finding ways to promote the game we could get people back on here (?)

Sent from my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SII

I don't think it's that related to each orher.
Obviously, saying something is dead kills the particular subject. I won't say it's dead unless eihrul states so or there won't be any more revisions over a period of time (which still occur). Also, who says the Sauerbraten project can't be adopted?

More like "Endangered"... True, but who would be willing enough (with experience and time) to take the sauer project into they're own hands? I can't think of anyone right away, although if I knew how to code I would gladly do it. My schedule is more liberal now that I'm in college, I have more time in the afternoons. Today I only had a 50 min class for the whole day then I'm home :P

This doesn't have much to do with it but I have been getting back into the game more and I'm thinking about starting my old clan back up again. I work on the clan map almost everyday now and I'm looking for a good group of people to help me get started. We were one of best groups at the time and I really miss those days where everyone could just edit in peace without some noob messing with us every 5 minutes. I know it's hard to find legit editors that regularly play the game but I know there are some out there :kirby:

You know the forum may be dying but there's still a decent amount of people playing everyday. After tracking total sauer downloads for some time, one thing that I don't get is if there are so many people still downloading the game every day, where are they now? Assume you were brand new to cube engine: would you stay based on how its looking now? Bland, out of date, and a small community isn't very appealing

Just putting my input in: I don't think we should blame it entirely on Minecraft, I think its also to do with a smaller community of new players. I remember reading in the Cube forums about putting Sauer on steam. Now I know there are many issues involved in this (mainly argued by Suicizer if I remember), but putting Sauer in places like this could spark more players.

Most new players that join play it for a few days as a kinda play around, then get bored and play a different game. Also I think we have to come to terms with the idea that one day Sauer will die out almost entirely except for those Diehard veterans.. This is just my opinion.

Absolutely, without a sustained community this game is done for, we need to find a way to get new people in, make connections, get people involved in communicating in IRC/forums, and ESPECIALLY finding a way to inform people of new releases o.O I mean you see the server lists, there are like 9-10 pages of servers with barely two pages worth of them actually in use. Those older servers still have handfuls of people behind an update or two - I still see people playing the Trooper edition  /!\  Since I got a new computer I'll be able be more active overall; what I'm going to do right now is work on our Tapatalk forum so it's easier for people to get to MH on their phones without being near a computer.... and yes I am one of those die hard veterans, I love this game, I've played it for almost 7 years and would hate to see it go, but times change as well as people, so we just need to learn to deal with things as they come - Just doing my part...

If were going to try to get this clan back on its feet I suggest we should at least have everyone connect to the channel. IRC is a convenient IM service that will make it easier to communicate with everyone and get more people in coopedit :P

Yo, sorry dudes, been busy school and migrating to a Linux OS :D Okay well I don’t know if this is still open for discussion or if
Suicizer is a member?
But in my opinion I'm a bit more on Ardelico side here. I've never really seen you, Suicizer, other than on Quad (and as you mention you're not the kindest person there :P), maybe a couple times on servers? In this case I don’t want mi vote counted, but what youse peoples could do is potentially make Suicizer a "Temp" member and until the dispute is complete hold back on the final decision.
Same here, I cant judge my opinion because I don't know all the details, but as far as I'm concerned I'm siding with Ardelico on this. We should let Suicizer in until further notice since he got the majority vote so far, and then decide after the issue is resolved  /!\
