Title: Tesseract
Post by: GoodOldJacob on April 19, 2012, 06:01:48 AM
Eihrul has announced that he would start working on a project called Tesseract. It's not supposed to replace sauerbraten but it's kind of like an experiment.
Tesseract is a whole new lighting system that introduces dynamic lighting. Since the sauerbraten lighting system was basically a copy of the Cube lighting system, with some additional features, it has never had dynamic lighting.

Check out the forum post here,: http://cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_thread&thread_id=2534

The github repository: https://github.com/lsalzman/tesseract

And a youtube video demonstrating this new system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkFT1ra2w-A

This new lightning system looks very cool and hopefully it could be included in an official release of sauerbraten.

...wtf? I've downloaded it and tried running it. All I get is "Could not find core textures" error and "missing SDL.dll from your computer" error.

Ok, first, you need the packages folder from a svn sauerbraten, second, start it with the batch file.

Me and jake did some editing yesterday but forgot to make screenies. Refractive materials are really cool.

If I may I'd like to host the server (:
I'll download Tesseract when I'm at home =D

*cough*
Zoocata, did you read any of the comments on the forum thread?
You need to drag over the packages folder from the Sauer SVN.

Put it in BLAHDIRECTORY/Tesseract/tesseract/

I just created a junction point with mine so I wouldn't have duplicated assets. Plus, I'll probably never go back to the SVN now. :P

Fail. I did that, still the same errors. Running from the batch file.

Oh, fixed it. Played it. Loved it.
but 1) still a few bugs, as sometimes the blocks disappear and then reappear.
2) LAGGY AS FUCK

For the time being, Tesseract can connect fine to sauerbraten svn servers. I'm running -[Jolly Roger]- at mappinghell.net port 30000

/connect mappinghell.net 30000
