The game isn't dead yet. It's a defeatist attitude like that which will kill the game indefinitely. We keep it alive. Plus when the new release comes out, there will be a boost of players. It's sad to see two good editors leave, regardless of the drama attached to their names.

So awesome! Sauer needs some cool oriental maps. Arabic theme is awesome to, they have amazing architecture. Those two themes haven't been fully expanded upon yet, so when I see this, and that other cool muslim temple thing, it makes me feel glad.

As much as this looks bad ass, I'm reluctant to see another HQ map. This is going to turn out to be another never ending CMValley style thing, that will stop you from making any productive playable maps isn't it. :D

Maps / Re: Flying Base - Done for now"

This map does look very nice. I like the design approach. You have an interesting 4 way symmetrical concept here, but it is far too cramped at parts. Some areas you hit your head when you jump, or the walls aren't very far a part. You have tuns of potential, but you have to keep in mind some things when making a highly functional layout. Keep at it!

Yes, Yoddle, thanks. Turned out I wanted to increase the number of ambient, not decrease it. The shadows looks bad in the map because of all the alpha glass. You get a really odd effect when you lower it, but when you increase it, it shows just enough, but not too much to reveal the shadows looking strange. I appreciate the advice. I didn't really do that great of a job on this project by the seems of it, I hope I do better next time. I'll be persistent though, I plan to learn from my mistakes and make something good.

Well you wanted to see something that had some details made by me.  Well not all the details in this are mine, but I textured the majority of the map, did geo, terrain, lighting, pickups, spawns, waypoints, alpha, skybox and vcommands. HeWho did all the more complex stuff and Zoocata did his fair share as well. This was an awesome little speed map project and was only made yesterday, so how bad ass is  that! I got some maps that still aren't done from a year ago, so that's a crazy feeling for me. I think it could be revisted and improved, but I wanted to keep it as is for now, because it is a speedmap. I hope you all enjoy it and appreciate the effort I put into it. I spent over 5 hours working on it.

Well all my maps other then that one, where with partners, so I guess it would be hard to tell what I did comparatively to what the other person did, just by looking at it. Though, I was in the quadropolis mapping comp with Apollo.  I don't want to show one of our maps on here without his permission. Other then that, they're all made with others. I only have one completed map that I made solo and that's odejoy.  In most of the projects, I made a layout, with no detail, had a few examples and a suggested theme, and the other person detailed it. I did a few details in some of  the map projects I was involved in and on other people's maps as well, but I never really do the bulk of the work in that regards. My first map odejoy I made by myself, but obviously the details aren't the greatest, though it shows I have some aptitude.  I'm certainly willing to learn and gain more skills.

PS: Thanks a lot Yoddle.

You linked me to a list of all the languages Apollo, I'm not sure why, heh. Ya, I probably do have ADD, I tend to go all over the place, I've always been like that, oh well, keeps it interesting, or frustrating, either one will do. Also, I promise to be nicer to Sweet :D
Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, and hopefully the almighty frog man will let me join.

In Game
How long have you been playing ? I got one of the first Cube 1 releases, back when the start up map was Nudist.

How did you discover the game ? I think I found it looking threw the old game site, www.gamehippo.com
I've been playing sauerbraten on and off since the early 2000's, so I'd say I'm one of the oldest players really. I didn't play it consistently all these years, but I played this game nearly 10 years ago. I came back to it from curiosity. I took a long break between 2008 and 2010.

What are your favorite game modes (except coopedit)? I like mostly all of them, but my favourite modes are as follows

Insta - Classic, I remember rocking this shit on kmap2 and zippie, we used love that back in the Cube 1 days, not to mention back in the Quake 3 days.

Insta Team - Team version, always good.

FFA - Classic, grab the weapons and fight. Everything is balanced nice and works well.

Team - Team version is always good

Capture - I like making maps for Capture, because it lets me make maps big. Also I hate spawning with pistol, so that's why I'm not into Regen as much.

Editing

What do you prefer to do in coopedit? I like to make layouts and help others improve their layouts.

How many mapping projects did you start? Too many, way too many :D

How many maps have you finished? I finnished one map, that was uploaded in 2007 on quadropolis. It's very Cube 1ish and not the greatest, but it's my first Sauerbraten map.

What is your favourite kind of map ? My favourite kind of map, is a medium large dm map.

Other

Do you want to add something else ? Hell ya, I just wanted to add, that I am awesome with chicken wings!

Ok, alright. Don't be so sensitive, I'm not trying to upset anyone here. Anyways Hawk, that is a neat layout. I'd say to make it really good though, you'd have to remake it 25% smaller, but the pathways 25% to 50% thicker. I really like the concept, but it really needs to re done with the dimensional adjustments I suggested. Also, I don't think having it so you fall all the time is good. The paths are long and thin, so 25% smaller would shortern the paths just enough and making the paths wider would make it better to battle while travelling. Good luck man.

Yes, but these maps don't have to be detailed at all. You'd hope maps posted in the maps section would have some details.

Look, I think a random layouts thread is good... ok, it doesn't have to be similiar to cm, ok. haha
I am going to weight lift for awhile, maybe we can play in a bit. You should try to make a few undetailed layouts to post in here yourself eventually.

Funny how the woman is always face less, it almost symbolizes something.  Like a woman who has great physique, yet has no glimer of hope. It's kind of depressing and attractive at the same time, damn you Apollo Creed,  for making me confused!

Maps / Random Layouts
November 18, 2011, 09:18:11 PM
I am just making this thread similiar to the Cubic Matter thread, for random partially detailed to undetailed layouts. This is just a place to show maps in early stages and potentially fix some of it's gameplay flaws, before a lot of detailling effort is put in. This can also help people who are newer to creating layouts so they can obtain hints and tricks to improving their work, which could then in theory improve their layouts in the future.

Well I am going to post up one larger undetailed capture map to start. It is capture, so no need to tell me it's too big. It was made with Peterpan and Superman. :D I will try to post some smaller to medium sized maps to in the future, I just like making capture maps for some reason. I am not an expert either at this process, so I hope to improve as well. I try to make the layouts playable, and do temporary lights (that is why they are terrible, not real lights) just so you can play test a bit. The wpt works ok, but I'll redo that after as well. I think it's good to have your layout playable before detailed to see how it will play, and what just doesn't work in game play can be discarded easily. Anyways, enjoy.

Introduce yourself / Sauce
November 17, 2011, 10:58:07 PM
Hey, it's me Sauce! Some of you may know of me already, I'm not sure. Well I came and I joined the forums; so here I am. I'm 23, Canadian and leave Sauerbraten on often. I play a tad too much, so you should have no problems seeing when I'm on, but often times I am doing other stuff while Sauerbraten is running. I am interested in designing layouts mainly, and that's it. I don't really like detailling at all and usually try to make others do it for me instead :D

I probably should learn and if anyone wants to do a lesson I am willing. Though I prefer just making lots of layouts and not detailling, haha. I guess that is lazy, but oh well. Though if anyone wants to teach me some I'm all for it. I can never really finnish my projects, though I can usually come up with concepts, so I like to just be creative. Hopefully I can help out some of you, even though I can't technically edit too well.
