Hey this is a restoration of a map that I found had a lot of potential and was super creative, but do to it's big errors and over sights, became under appreciated and got overlooked. The basic concept of the layout is really interesting and not many maps use a similar style. However in the original you could go in this huge area filled with water and there was no clip and it made the map huge and unplayable. I made it functional. It's still a large map, intended for an occasion where one has more players. I texture replaced the textures as well and it looked great. With a little TLC I think this map could be a good contender for a release. This map is worth a play test with 7 to 11 bots, it works well, even though the clipping is a bit oddly done. Give it a look.

It's just an alpha and stupid stuff was left in and some stuff makes no sense, but see the potential :)

Maps / Genesis Tesseract Play Test
March 24, 2014, 05:53:07 AM
The layout has taken a total overhaul. I really hope someone gives this a shot! This map is a bit slow, but the layout is really cool, and I'm glad to see it take shape somewhat. Please comment on the changes and your overall thoughts.

I work on the road a lot, so I want to purchase a laptop, that can run Tesseract really well, with all the shit turned up at a quick speed and minimal choppyness. I want to pay under 1,000 for it, but still have reasonably good specs. Any good internet deals that you would suggest would be greatly appreciated. Once I get the laptop, I plan to start mapping more. Thanks

Maps / Play test for Tess!

This is just a play test map for tesseract, no details or nothing. Add 7 bots or so and try! So fun! Plays really well for the way tess handles.

Maps / Imminent Danger
July 12, 2012, 12:34:39 AM
I am working on imminent tonight and it's almost done. I plan on updating quad. If you want to pop in, I'll be on Jolly Roger. I'll put a link to quad from here when it's time.

Take a look at that map, we should try to put together a texture set like that. Maybe we could work together on it.

I need a texture set to work with and I can't do shit, unless I stick to just one set. Though everyone already seen every theme, so everything seems over done if you just follow one texture set. Maybe I could make a cool gibbie map, I know I could do that theme, but really all the themes are getting sour, in the bad loaf kind of way. Maybe I can just make one gibbie, one lunarian etc. I could do that probably. Otherwise I'll never be successful. Maps like secret and genesis I have no hope to complete, because it's all mixed texture sets and I can never tie it all together when it's like that. I will never ever have a finished map if I don't do it myself, period. My maps are pretty much not going anywhere anymore and I doubt they ever will. So I am just going to forget about them and start over, fuck it. I can't be in a position where I have to beg people for labour that don't really care about the project they're working on. It makes me seem like a fake and I am basically slave driving people that have no love for the project, which isn't fair to them. I think I might give up on this mapping thing, I just can't seem to get anything together and I am loosing patience, and I had a lot of it to start. It's obvious. I either find a new direction or quit, I can't handle to see anymore failed projects. So if anyone wants to help me try to learn how to be more independent that would be cool. Also maybe try to get a texture pack like this together, that would be cool as well. I am just extremely disappointed with how all the work in my projects turned out and how it was all wasted, that it makes it hard for me to have any desire to map again, I am uber discouraged and unhappy with everything that is Sauerbraten mapping. I just don't want to think about secret or genesis again and since the ctf I am working on follows a single theme, I just will do that maybe. If this map does well, I'll continue, if not, I don't know if I can. I am just a noob who asks for everything, I am no real mapper. This has to change.

This is a very early play test version. Try it with bots in capture and in large team deathmatches. I hope you guys enjoy it.

I can never edit online really in RE because I can't get mastermode anywhere. I'd like if we had our own RE server where we could use admin.

Maps / For Sparky
March 05, 2012, 10:15:26 PM
This is a map I helped sparky with.
Sparky, I expect to see a post from you for an updated version of this eventually.

I hope you like it! Continue work on it, you got the gist of what I was doing. Add a bunch of light fixtures and computers etc.

I thought it would be interesting to talk about different concepts related to geometry, trigonometry and drafting and how they could be applied in drafting out layouts. Learning principles in architecture, and studying it, also duplicating pictures you find on the net of different exterior and interior views of various structures and/or buildings. Also drafting out a layout, as if it where inside a structure. Making a great deal of the details come organically from logical supports, to hold up the structure. Obviously the optimal layout for game play of any size or intended game mode of a map  is unlike any building, but it still can be incapsulated in a building like shell, and be made into a building like structure.

Now I never really taken the drafting approach before, but it might be good for some people and possibly me to. They're some people who seem to be able to make magnificient layouts right off the top of their minds, but some others may be able to make great creations from a more pre planned approach. Often times people just sit around and do nothing for a large majority of the time during editing, and one often gets mappers block; therefore, you'll be able to make up for the time it took to plan everything out. No one that I know of really ever used a drafting/architecural Engineering approach, to construct maps that function well in game. I think it's something to be considered for those who struggle making good layouts.

I was hoping we could share photos of interesting architecture, geometry/trigonometry/drafting software, drafted plans for layouts and anything helpful for a pre planned mapping approach. I'd love to eventually see a drafted out layout accompanied with an ogz of the map and recreations of random photos of architecture. My objective with this thread is to inspire some to try this approach, especially those who are good at detailling, yet struggle with layout design.

Maps / kmap2 Sauerbaten Remake
January 20, 2012, 01:08:20 AM
This was a map I used to practice my detailling. I just converted kmap2 from Cube 1 and enlarged it by one grid size. I did this because one, all the Cube maps are too narrow and you hit your head all over the place and two, they're not all in grid. Then I changed the theme completely and detailed it with the help of others. It's not completely done, but it's close. This map was one of my favourite Cube 1 maps back in the day. Hopefully it can be improved enough to replace kmap5 in the release, because kmap5 is made like a Cube 1 one, there for it's all too cramped. I like the nostalgic feel of this map. I am not the greatest at lighting, but I was going for a slightly more bright looking map.

How long have you been playing ? I got one of the first Cube 1 releases, back when the start up map was Nudist.

How did you discover the game ? I think I found it looking threw the old game site, www.gamehippo.com
I've been playing sauerbraten on and off since the early 2000's, so I'd say I'm one of the oldest players really. I didn't play it consistently all these years, but I played this game nearly 10 years ago. I came back to it from curiosity. I took a long break between 2008 and 2010.

What are your favorite game modes (except coopedit)? I like mostly all of them, but my favourite modes are as follows

Insta - Classic, I remember rocking this shit on kmap2 and zippie, we used love that back in the Cube 1 days, not to mention back in the Quake 3 days.

Insta Team - Team version, always good.

FFA - Classic, grab the weapons and fight. Everything is balanced nice and works well.

Team - Team version is always good

Capture - I like making maps for Capture, because it lets me make maps big. Also I hate spawning with pistol, so that's why I'm not into Regen as much.

Editing

What do you prefer to do in coopedit? I like to make layouts and help others improve their layouts.

How many mapping projects did you start? Too many, way too many :D

How many maps have you finished? I finnished one map, that was uploaded in 2007 on quadropolis. It's very Cube 1ish and not the greatest, but it's my first Sauerbraten map.

What is your favourite kind of map ? My favourite kind of map, is a medium large dm map.

Do you want to add something else ? Hell ya, I just wanted to add, that I am awesome with chicken wings!

Maps / Random Layouts
November 18, 2011, 09:18:11 PM
I am just making this thread similiar to the Cubic Matter thread, for random partially detailed to undetailed layouts. This is just a place to show maps in early stages and potentially fix some of it's gameplay flaws, before a lot of detailling effort is put in. This can also help people who are newer to creating layouts so they can obtain hints and tricks to improving their work, which could then in theory improve their layouts in the future.

Well I am going to post up one larger undetailed capture map to start. It is capture, so no need to tell me it's too big. It was made with Peterpan and Superman. :D I will try to post some smaller to medium sized maps to in the future, I just like making capture maps for some reason. I am not an expert either at this process, so I hope to improve as well. I try to make the layouts playable, and do temporary lights (that is why they are terrible, not real lights) just so you can play test a bit. The wpt works ok, but I'll redo that after as well. I think it's good to have your layout playable before detailed to see how it will play, and what just doesn't work in game play can be discarded easily. Anyways, enjoy.

Introduce yourself / Sauce
November 17, 2011, 10:58:07 PM
Hey, it's me Sauce! Some of you may know of me already, I'm not sure. Well I came and I joined the forums; so here I am. I'm 23, Canadian and leave Sauerbraten on often. I play a tad too much, so you should have no problems seeing when I'm on, but often times I am doing other stuff while Sauerbraten is running. I am interested in designing layouts mainly, and that's it. I don't really like detailling at all and usually try to make others do it for me instead :D

I probably should learn and if anyone wants to do a lesson I am willing. Though I prefer just making lots of layouts and not detailling, haha. I guess that is lazy, but oh well. Though if anyone wants to teach me some I'm all for it. I can never really finnish my projects, though I can usually come up with concepts, so I like to just be creative. Hopefully I can help out some of you, even though I can't technically edit too well.
