Title: Mapping Hell: More than a mapping clan?
Post by: Sweet on April 15, 2016, 07:44:58 AM
I'm fast approaching my senior year of my undergraduate at Earlham College. I will graduate with an International Studies degree. The job market is not optimal in my country, but I’m not too worried. My family has some money, and I have some marketable skills. I probably will go to graduate school, and get a Masters of Business and Administration, so that I can get a high paying job.

I wouldn’t be here if not for Mapping Hell. I’m not saying that there is something specific to causally link my involvement in some Sauerbraten clan with my current status. What I’m trying to say is that Mapping Hell, and more generally the Sauerbraten community, were a social network that I devoted a lot of energy and time to, and in consequence it became a big part of who I was.

I went to Europe last fall and I met with two people from Sauerbraten that I’d met years ago: Zeronic in Berlin, and Snowy in Amsterdam. What I realized then was that I’m not the only one who ingratiated them-self with this Sauerbraten community. I feel like I have made friends for life- people I can always relate to, in some fashion.

Am I crazy? Do you guys feel the same way?

I totally agree, sauer's community is really unique compared to other games and I also feel like I have made real friends there. I started some projects on sauer, would love to get help from you guys! Maybe it would give back some life to the editing world of our favorite game?  :D Anyway nice to see you're still alive guys!  :anisan:

Coming out of the shadows for a moment to say:

I feel the same way about a lot of what you said. I grew up on sauer, and a lot of you influenced me on a very personal level as a little kid. I used to feel a bit iffy about the whole "true friends" sentiment, but meeting you, Sweet (although it was sort of awkward due to the age difference at the time) solidified the belief that you can make a true friend through the internet.

Thanks for being there, man.
