Red Eclipse / Scripting ideas/methods.
April 09, 2012, 09:54:03 PM
Hey, i realise this is the "archived" forum but it's letting me start new threads, so should i be posting this here or not?

Anyway..... is anyone familar with scripting in red eclipse? It seems to differ a bit from sauerbraten in several ways (commands used for example). Most fo the basic stuff such as opening doors can be done entirely in game without touching the config using trigger entities and linking them together.

So far i've got my head around linking a trigger entity with the "action, toggle,on" parameter:
trigger > sound + door

So when you press a button on the wall, a noise is heard and the door opens, blah blah. All works good.

I've been trying to get it to use the "script, toggle,on" paramater, so that i can echo some text when a button is pressed, for example a notification fo which door has been opened, in the event the door is on the other side of the map as an example.

I picked up somewhere that you can use "worldalias on_trigger_86" to run a command/loop (where obviously, the trigger entity would be named trigger(86) in this example.

Like so:
worldalias on_trigger_86 = [=  echo "^fz43!^f7ALERT^fz43! ^f4room ^f6A^f02 ^f4has been opened." ]
Although it doesn't do anything when you press E inside of the trigger radius.

Another problem i've now got, is that when i find out how to echo text on a trigger event, the door would not open anymore. Anyone also know how to open a door with a command?

Sorry if this sounds confusing, there isn't alot of wiki/docs on this stuff that i can find.

What i am trying to do, is have a console with a trigger in front... you press the button and there is a set time/delay for how long the door stays open, and you have to speed your way into the door before it closes. Obviously if there is a command to open/close doors in scripts/configs then it would be easy enough to just add a sleep loop.

Frogmod / "map" command (server-init.cfg)
March 30, 2012, 11:45:47 PM
With this command set in server-init.cfg, it should theoretically launch the server to load "hog2" on gamemode 1 (co-op editing) right?
map hog2 1

Never seems to work properly however. I have noticed on the http console the mode will set correctly (screenshot below), although the map-name will be titled "no map", and as soon as you join the server,  complex will be loaded on the default gamemode (ffa).

I asked jacob on irc not long ago he said someone else had the same problem, is the command broken in frogmod or are we using the wrong syntax? :gaysquirrel:

Pictures / Nibelheim
March 01, 2012, 08:29:35 AM
Some screenshots taken other the past few months of a map i've been slowly making. Thought it would be interesting to see how it's evolving. I'll post updated screenshot's every now and then.

PS; It's a town from the best game ever made (final fantasy 7  ;D) for those who don't know.
http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/9/9e/Nibelheim.PNG

Will be trying to get it as close as possible (within cube 2's octree limit), and only using release content (default models, textures etc... no custom stuff!).

So here's a few screenshots, the latest is from earlier today, the others a probably anywhere between a few weeks or months old now.

Resources / evilhud
February 22, 2012, 08:29:16 AM
I made this quite a while ago... it's nothing special and to be honest it was made using the GIMP and took around 15minutes to do lol. Most of it is just rectangles drawn over the default images in sauer and a red hue.

The main reason for me using this hud is for the console (F11) as it has a very quake3 sort of feel to it :fapping:
It looks pretty cool (to me) considering how simple it is.

Extract evilhud.zip to your local data folder:
linux/unix =  ~/.sauerbraten/data/
windows = C:\Users\$USER\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sauerbraten\data\
OS X = ~/Library/Application Support/sauerbraten/data/

News & Discussions / Compaq Presario CQ5210
December 31, 2011, 07:11:01 PM
Ok, this is my setup (compaq/oem deal) from 2009. It's pretty crappy, for gaming (integrated graphics lol), though it can play alot of games with a steady framerate on standard to low-detail settings. As long as i'm running a 64bit OS on this computer, i can get 70-100fps in sauerbraten on most maps, when there are about 15 players, and low detail settings.

Motherboard:
Pegatron NARRA5

CPU:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (

  • Cache size: 512kb
  • Cpu cores: 2
  • Cpu speed: 1000MHz - 2.8GHz
  • Bogomips: 2009.72

Graphics:
nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

  • Graphics clock: 425MHz
  • Memory Clock: 800MHz
  • Memory: 512 MB
  • Memory Interface 32-bit
  • Bus Type: integrated
  • Outputs: VGA

Sound:
nVidia MCP61 High Definition Audio

RAM:
3GB (2887mb) DDR2

Disk:
Hitachi 320GB 7200rpm internal
LACiE 500GB 5400rpm external

Monitor:
Compaq Q2159 LCD (1920x1080)

Operating System(s):
  • ArchLinux x86_64 (LXDE desktop)
  • Slackware64 (-current) (KDE Desktop)
  • FreeBSD 8.2 amd64 (Fluxbox + ROX desktop)

Thinking of getting something newer soon; have been looking at the AMD bulldozer (4 or 6 core) and either the nvidia gt520, or the nvidia gt440.

Maps / scorch
December 07, 2011, 02:08:38 AM
Here's a map i've updated (in fact restarted from scratch, copying over the geometry and rebuilding).
I had posted it on quad for feedback a while ago: http://quadropolis.us/node/3188

This is the general feel/theme to the map (the finished version will look similar):

It isn't finished, but i've changed quite a bit of the layout to add more flow/character to the map. Attached is the new map layout, and this time it has a config. The newer version is very small (~70/80kb) in filesize compared to the one i posted on quadropolis (~1.5mb), even though the second version has more geometry and is larger.

I haven't got round to re-adding lights/pickups/waypoints yet as i'm still working on the geometry parts (but check the screenshot for an idea). If anyone can compare the two maps and post what they think works best, or any other ideas that would be awesome. I will try to update this thread when i make any changes.

Resources / cottage (day & night) textures
November 23, 2011, 12:01:41 AM
Contains normalmaps, glowmaps, and a package.cfg (these were created by me)

2 different types of cottage designs, each with a night time version. The texture pack is probably ideal for background scenery (use the textures to bring out detail on very basic geometry that is unimportant).

Screenshots:

Textures obtained from here: http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/packs/building_cottage/index.htm
License: Free to use, as long as credit is given to spiralgraphics.

Enjoy!  :D

PS: If you want to use them in a map simply add this line to your map config:
exec "packages/uf/cottage/package.cfg"

The Mega Archive / Desura Client
November 18, 2011, 01:54:50 PM
Spotted an article on slashdot yesterday about the release of a linux client for Desura:
http://www.desura.com/groups/desura/news/public-release-of-the-linux-client

I've been waiting for something like this for years.... may not be as big as 'steam', but its good enough to hopefully push more commercial game dev's onto linux. Mainly games created by indie developers (small price tags) and open-source ones at no cost.

Quin's sexy baby is even on there: http://www.desura.com/games/red-eclipse  :-* ;D

Spotted a few other open-source games playable with their client such as alien-arena. I hear they also have a Mac OSX client in the works.

What do you guys think, will it take off and possibly be a strong competitor to steam?

Maps / sonic deathmatch WIP [11/01/13]
November 15, 2011, 05:52:53 PM
Started this 3 days ago, another sonic the hedgehog themed map. So far its made up completely (not based on an actual map/level in the games). Though i've tried to recreate obvious features and geometry to make it look like a map from sonic the hedgehog.

When it's finished it will hopefully be a fun deathmatch map.

I'll probably change the map name soon, so far its kind of a 3d mix between 'green hill zone' and 'autumn hill zone' from the old sonic games.

Tell me what you think  :P

PS. newer versions will be posted as a new reply.

Resources / the best lava texture ever
November 07, 2011, 08:02:19 AM

<insert spontaneous fap attack here>

materialreset
texture lava "uf/eon/funky_texture_base_036.png" 0 0 0 5
texture 1 "uf/eon/funky_texture_base_036.png"

This has to be the most sexual texture i've ever seen  ;D:
http://www.art.eonworks.com/free/textures/funky_texture_base_036.png

Btw, that guy has 9 pages of 'free' textures for use in games and they look freakin' awesome, i have just started converting them all properly to sauer (normal maps, spec maps etc). Expect a sexual texture pack soon.  :-*

Resources / free seamless texture pack
November 07, 2011, 02:47:00 AM

Created some normalmaps for these textures and packaged them for sauerbraten.
Did this because i had nothing else to do at the time  :P

Found them here: http://www.freeseamlesstextures.com/texture_gallery/index.htm

There is also a basic map/config inside the attached archive if you want to check them out in-game.

Frogmod / archlinux/frogmod package
October 24, 2011, 09:02:04 PM
Finished this earlier today, seems to work fine for the most. Its a package build script for archlinux to install frogmod onto your box just like any other package.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=53415

If you use archlinux and have a package helper (such as `yaourt') for the AUR, you can install/build it by simply typing:
yaourt -S frogmod-justice-git
and then run the frogserv script in /usr/sbin/frogserv

I've packaged it so that it uses /home/$USER/.frogmod/ as the config directory, the first time vampi's frogmod is run, from this package, the config files needed are copied into there.

Because it uses git to create the package, the build script won't be updated often, if there is a new feature in vampi's git master, then rebuild the package and it should install a more up to date version as simple as that.  ;)

The Mega Archive / hello
October 14, 2011, 06:34:40 AM
Hi, some of you may know me, i tend to hop coop servers often.

I have been playing sauerbraten for a few years on and off.
Lately i've only really been playing 2 games (sauerbraten, and openarena).
I really love the cube2 editor and thought why not learn how to use it properly. So i joined here.  ;)
