Happy New Year, you buncha nerds.
Just got back to "normal time".
After the back-to-school/end-of-year rush at work (long story)*, I made what we'll call a less-than-intelligent decision to help out some friends who were going to Ecuador (longer story), thru the holidays on a charitable cause. It was not a smart idea, due to the fact I was already squeezing the work schedule so much, AND had less staff to work with. ["Yes Mr. Health Care Provider, a major recession would be an excellent time for you to reduce your staff, in order to glean maximum profits for yourself. Even though the recession actually had ZERO effect on your business, you can cut jobs "like everyone else is now."] :/
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRgh!
*This whole thing happens every year, since payment depends on insurance providers, and people rush to get work done after meeting thier deductibles for the year, etc, but it was SO FREAKING horrible and busy this year that it's seriously caused me to consider a career change. Maybe I'll just start pushing a grocery cart full of cans throughout town.

Anyways, boring adult segment over. I should be horsing off here in Sauerville again.
Here's a nice picture of a kitty.   -W.

Did you just notice all these negative points since changing your name?
Quick! Change back to DOBK, and they'll all go away.

Some of those people have been noobs so long, they've gone PRO-noob. Especially 99.99% of all who refer to themselves as "pro".

Meanwhile,
Wolfenstien ET is a real blast, although the XP system hides a number of hacks and other cheaters, even with PB in use.(Examples: One hit wonders and machine gun snipers!)
Urban Terror can be really fun too. Stick to servers like the Alpha clan's. They are harsh with cheaters, and the like.

Las Vegas...she a no a gonna happen!
MAMA MIA!
its just toooo freeeekin large.
I made an "actual" size land plot model from the mini-me version.
Only half of the strip makes it onto the largest size newmap.
and.....(sniff), without any detail whatSOever, i get 56 fps offline while looking at it.
I regret to inform you, that my contribution to this project may be at an end. I am tendering my lag.  :D
Anyone with any constructive suggestions please submit them.

So, is it \MH\ or [MH]?
I agree the latter is nicer lookin', as well as more stylish when cubing it on a map somewhere.

Slash, and anyone joining us, before anything,  download this template below here. I'll explain later.
:D
For clarification on this project: Obviously, we're only planning to model the extriors, entryways, and courtyards of the variuos landmarks. Interiors are not going to happen.
Any single one of these hotel/casinos, to scale, would make a more than fair size map on thier own.
Maybe some of them can be redone and opened-up on a future map....or a playable one like you last mentioned here.
This large one is not going to be playable in any conventional sense.
Regarding size:  This is going to be waaaay big. If we get to a point where our map is becoming LAG VEGAS, we need to either:
A.) "Continue on next map"
or
B.) Abandon this idea for a more truncated version.
Personally, i'm lagging just looking at a still photo of the Mirage hotel "volcano" fountain.

The posted street map (here below) is a special throwaway template texture for laying out /plotting the streets and properties. This needs to be loaded before any other custom textures upon getmapping. so we all see the same thing, the same way. Trust me.  :D

Doing a little eyeball research...I declare ordinary topical streetmaps look unusable for the task. Opinion: stick with the tourist maps.
Since there really is SO much packed into the Strip area, photo reference for each landmark/club/casino/hotel will need to be gathered and grouped individually. Luxor alone is going to be a virtual busload of referenceCasino floormaps will be handy too. As well as pix of slot machines, roulette tables, bla bla....
If we can (at the end) get some texscrolling going for a few things such as marquee lightbulbs, slots (one armed bandits!), and mega-jackpot counters, that would be...SA-wheeeat!
The listing below, corresponds with the fisrt pic attatched here. The individual landmarks, then, can be googled by whoever is working on that business, or at least marking out its mapspace.

"Fast Food Fight"
aka Burger Town / Burger Wars / Burger Burg.
Mpa made for FFA, Insta, Team...
I've been kicking this around a while. Getting some reference and the like.

Premise: Battle between the last two remaining fast-food chains in the world.

Decscription: Formerly, an active business district, centered around a shopping plaza. Various commercial buildings, MOSTLY fast-food restaurants.
Now, completely destroyed area. Knocked down buildings, rubble covered streets, turned over vehicles, pot holed grounds, piles of decris. Half recognizable brand icons and signs are broken and/or partially buried under wreckage near thier respective buildings; along with origianl fake fast-food icons and businesses.
The two remaoning brands, fake ones, will be centered half way across the map from each other, with sniper points on thier own standing lightboard signs; with other posts in nearby locations. Shortcuts will go through linked building remains.
Sound any good?
I've doodled some silly fake restaurant brands to start.

The Mega Archive / Map Idea Doodles / Reference
July 05, 2009, 12:55:21 AM
!!! Admin please move this if it should be in Thread Area !!!

Just some ideas, and a pic of beautiful entry to bldg.
The giant triangle thing i actually started, and its gaining dust.
The Tao idea is super simple CTF idea:
Each tadpole head is a high point, where the flags are; under each high area, is the opposing spawn area (a cave); these caves open to the lowest end of a long slope leading to the high end. Simple.
The walls should maybe have sniper holes, and the slopes littered with barriers, or cover from fire.
My doodles are just map shape proto-concepts.

In the category of: "Crossing the Licsensing Line"...
My question had been: How about a group of Giger themed textures?
So far, the test stuff looks okay-ish. Perhaps, with some decent lighting, the correct fog and fogcolor, water, etc. they would look nice and crap....er...creepy.
For (ahem) copyright purposes, they'd probably have to be made more unrecognizable; even though the 'net is awash with such unlicensed images in wallpaper and gallery form. In fact..it's an outright game resource rip-off-a-thon of Giger; with little, or no, alterations to concept or style from the original . They even call them "Giger textures" dammit !
Perhaps, I'll just forego this idea.
More texture zips forthcoming...if any interest is shown.
I'll post pix.

Either way, enjoy the final act of me beating a dead horse:  The Sponge-alien.

Giger themed textures?

"Hey Bob!  That ain't no watermelon!"
Oh no!  too late.

Don't laugh.  Chuck is a bad influence on Bob. Yesterday, i went out for a smoke, heard a noise, came back, freakin' Chuck Norris ruined my map! As you are aware, he can enter the internet, and rockets can't stop him.

Okey-Doke!
Deleted old texture file, made adjustments, added many more diverse types, and felt the need to split it into TWO packages. Lets see if I can get them through now. Part A and Part B.

Fresh from the oven. Everyone's favorites!
I'll be putting up a better, bigger, more diverse non-beta package of textures in the next 24 hours. Along with screens, for those too laz...er..BUSY to check the pack itself. In the meantime , enjoy.

Resources / Textures: Simple , yet fun....
June 20, 2009, 04:20:43 AM
Hey All,
While the standard texture menu cannot be faulted in its recorded versatility, it has been observed, that many players, both old and new alike, often make maps which call for more color and/or variety to the textures. So, in the interest of progress,I've begun to assemble a swell little grouping of customized textures which I believe many will enjoy. Nothing too fancy (no bumpmappings this go around), but some fun ones, as well as others more compatible with the stock menu. Please observe the two quadrille tex's, as these are fun, and have potential as "noob helpers", acting as if outline were active, whilst saving on the fps! ;D
Enjoy.
  Your Pal, Wormwood.

Thanks for the votes guys!
BTW: I finally got the custom textures working again. So, if anyone else needs additional coaxing, I can provide access to two of the world's most annoying textures.
(and a couple real nice'uns.)

Some of you already know me (a little). I consider myself fairly imaginative, and capable at editing in Sauerbraten. I have a positive attitude in gaming, even during a negative situation. I'm always willing to assist  a new player in co-op, as well as help out a veteran to do the drudge work in finishing a solid map. For a variety of reasons, I've resisted joining into any clans over the years. But, as time is often a rare commodity for me, I'd prefer to spend my "Sauer hours" doing quality mapping with quality mappers. Attached, please find a few NEW ogz files. More upon request , or online, or whatever.(don't want to send too large of a post!) Thanks for your consideration.
