I tried to, a few weeks back when you guys were talking about it before. Although i installed the game, put everything on lowest settings and it was still unplayable for me lol.

All the GUI/HUD menu's were lagging like crazy and i think i had about 5-10fps in game.
I've been saving up a bit of money, so might go and get a better cpu/graphics card soon.

You reckon a nvidia gt520 is decent enough for xonotic?

According to that link you can build the game on a mac. I would guess they offer mac binaries seeing as the post is from 2010.

I'm not sure, I'm just looking for an engine which provides support for proper geometry, but also it has to have an active community. I thought the quality of xonotic maps is far superior to sauer, and the shaders are more precise, and a lot of other things too, functioning doors, dynamic lights, it really opens up a lot of new possibilities. But this isn't the only engine, I was also thinking of half-life 2 mapping (hammer tool), and really, any current game that supports custom mapping. The fact that it's current would mean it has an active community. It's not really hard to learn to use an editor, same principles apply everywhere, the space is still 3D. Jake has used UDK, maybe he can tell us more. I just feel that it's pointless to be exclusive to sauer, which simply seems like a worn out toy at times. It's still cool, and I find it therapeutic to play it now and then, but I'm really curious about other engines.

How do you guys feel about this?

Remember, having mapping for several game engines in your portfolio might look really attractive on your resume, if you'll be looking for a job in game design.

Doom

hmm, it look's like a good game. I'll try it out, hopefully it will work good on my Crap Mac.

Jake maybe you can post some of your UDK map screnshots in the mapshot section.

Doom

Not so bad of a game. Still, its red eclipse themed.

I don't think you can legally say that it's "Red Eclipse themed."

Red Eclipse rules and it uses a sci fi theme. Sci fi is kick ass. Shut your mouth Doom :D

NetRadiant is the editing tool - http://dev.alientrap.org/wiki/7

Here are some maps http://dev.xonotic.org/projects/3/wiki/Maps

You'll notice Calinou in there :)

There was a mapping support package but i can't find it...

I've been playing red eclipse quite alot recently (just fragging, etc) but only 2 names i've seen that i recognize from Sauer are quin and calinou lol (of the people i've seen). I agree, red eclipse rules and it kicks ass so hard my butt hurts after i've been playing it (maybe i should stand up once in an hour).

Alright, I've discovered the missing link to xonotic mapping. You need to download a pk3 file from here:

http://beta.xonotic.org/autobuild/Xonotic-latest-mappingsupport.zip

user: xonotic
password: g-23

inside the zip there is netradiant and a pk3 file that you put in your xonotic/data folder

Then start up netradiant, and pick 'xonotic' as the target game, and I think it will ask you for the path to xonotic files, just browse to the xonotic installation folder.
